Protecting patients’ security and safety is one of our top priorities at Patient Access. As a result of the recent statement from Samsung on issues with their fingerprint unlocking, we have taken the decision to remove fingerprint unlock in Patient Access for the following devices:
Samsung Galaxy S10
Samsung Galaxy S10+
Samsung Galaxy S10 5G
Samsung Note 10
Samsung Note 10+
The first step we have taken is to remove all affected devices from the Google Play Store – meaning that any owner of these devices will not be able to currently download the app or update their Patient Access application.
This allows our development team time to build and release a patch to remove fingerprint unlock from the application for all affected devices, while protecting any new users from this vulnerability. This patch will remain in place until we are satisfied that Samsung have fixed the issue and patient records are no longer at risk.
The patch is expected to be released in the coming days, subject to approval from the Play Store team.
Existing users of these devices are advised to disable the biometric authentication on their device immediately, until such time as Samsung release a fix for the issue.
Existing and new users will still be able to use the Web Application on www.patientaccess.com using their existing login details.
